God has been pressing me with an issue that will probably step all over people’s toes but I can’t shake it. I have to say something.
1 John 3:11-18
Love One Another
11For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.12We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous.13Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you.14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.15Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
16By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.17But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?18Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
Versus 17 and 18 jump out to me like crazy! If anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? If you live in america for the most part you have the world’s goods. As a matter of fact, if you make more than $37,000 a year you are in the top 4% of income earners in the world! There is need all around us yet how many of us will buy luxuries (cable, new phone, expensive cars, etc) before we help those in need. This is absurd to me. The problem is the world has seen no difference in us and them when it comes to our stuff. We still pursue comfort and things. The word of God is clear on us helping our fellow man in need. If we have the means and do nothing, God’s love does not abide in us. It goes on to say don’t just talk but love in deeds! (v 18)
John 13:35 “”By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you havelove for one another.”
We as Christians need to step up and show love! Below are some opportunities to step it up and show Christ’s love. Click a link and do something!
